A place where time stands still…
In 2018, we first opened the Bottengarn boutique guesthouse, located in the historic fishing village of Koguva. Even the name of the house dates back centuries, possessing a special meaning. Of Swedish origin, the name ‘bottengarn’ refers to an old eel-fishing gear that was widely used in our own village of Koguva. It is a tribute to the ancient traditions of Koguva, which we wish to connect with the modern world. Bottengarn guesthouse offers cosy accommodation both on land and at sea. With us, guests can choose between rooms with wonderful sea views and floating houses. All rooms are located on the second floor of the house, accessible by stairs, and are furnished with high-quality Schmidt and Riviera Maison furniture and accessories. In addition, the second-floor sun deck is open to guests, where they can watch the wonderful setting sun. For lunch and dinner, we welcome you to the Chef’s Hall, where fresh fish caught by locals is served, as well as meat from sheep and cattle grazing on our own coastal meadows, set against a wonderful sea view
There are a total of 4 different rooms in the guesthouse: 1 room with a king-size bed and 3 with queen-size beds. The large room with a king-size bed, named Ruudu, also has a private balcony with a view of the juniper pasture and the sea. Since 2020, our accommodation options have expanded to include 2 exclusive floating houses located in the harbour, right next to the fishing boats.
All our guesthouse rooms are named after women who played an important role in the life of Koguva village’s most prominent resident, Juhan Smuul. In his books, Juhan Smuul also wrote in detail about the life of both the village and its fishermen.
In addition to the cosy rooms, the immediate surroundings of the guesthouse offer much joy of discovery. Walking along the old village roads of Koguva, the preserved farmhouse architecture is clearly visible. Furthermore, all interested parties can get a good overview of local maritime history from our own small fishing museum.
The Bottengarn boutique guesthouse season lasts from the beginning of June until the end of September.
